Sharing The Arts

Authorship
My first forays into writing were dragging a notebook halfway up our walnut tree and blissfully writing in the comfort of my green leaf shelter. Now I use a laptop, but the green trees outside my window still bring me peace. The story of my husband’s cancer journey garnered Best Seller in four areas. Currently I am writing a historical fiction triptych about a great-great grandmother whose pioneer wagon ran over her.

Storytelling
As a child, I entertained my parents with puppet shows created from cutout figures against a cardboard box backdrop. Now my backdrops are the Utah Storytelling Guild and the National Storytelling Network, and my figures are folk stories or stories of heritage. I love entertaining children and adults with individual stories or my one-woman shows that are already set up.

Music
I’ve always enjoyed singing and playing the piano, but performances started at age 10 when I sang all over Salt Lake City in a girls’ quartet. In college, I became the youngest-aged Metropolitan Opera Auditions winner in Utah and got to perform with the Utah Symphony. After our six children were old enough, our family band toured for 16 years. After retiring from the Tabernacle Choir, I started giving one-woman shows of music and stories. My podcast, Church Music Origins, features stories about beloved hymn composers and lyricists.
